I’ve heard so many good things about The Panopticon! But I know just what you mean about not having read all the books… I would love to be able to follow a lit prize one year and aim to read all of say the shortlist but I have so many unread books already. Maybe next year…

Oh no! Another award list to make me feel inadequate because I haven’t read any of them, although I do have ‘The Panopticon’ on order from the library. I agree though that anything that brings good literature into the public eye has to be applauded. There are titles here that I might otherwise not have encountered and now I shall certainly look out for the short list at least.

I think it's strong and daring, Smith's novel is experimental, Atkinson's has a very different and unique structure and Semple's in epistolary form. There are some well-known author's, but they are all stretching conventions. Let's see if anyone can succeed in pushing Mantel from her perch.
